One Leads hit locates a stolen Rolex and solves additional cases

“I was sitting in a briefing when an officer mentioned that a victim had a Rolex stolen from her vehicle. Detectives aren’t typically assigned to a Theft from Auto, but given the specific brand of watch, I thought I’d search LeadsOnline. I got an instant hit with Leads where a Rolex was sold the same day as the theft. A picture of the watch submitted by the shop proved to be helpful, too. I was able to compare that to a picture the victim submitted. I recovered the watch and was able to return it to the victim. She is a law school student who had borrowed her mother’s watch. The watch had been in their family for 20 years. She was extremely thankful for getting it back. I did some additional follow up with the suspect in this case and have since used LeadsOnline to connect him to another burglary in the same area as the Theft from Auto. He sold watches and some computer equipment from one burglary to the same shop. I recovered video from the shop to then do a search warrant on the suspect’s vehicle, which gave me items from two other burglaries. The suspect was on probation for burglary so he’s been in jail since. Thanks LeadsOnline.”

Online investigations reporting system leads police to rare, stolen guitars

“One of our Officers took a report of two very expensive, rare guitars stolen from a storage locker. The owner had been out of the country for a few weeks, and when he returned, he found his prized guitars were stolen. These guitars were valued at $9,000. After being assigned to this case, I searched in LeadsOnline for the guitars and instantly got a hit. I found that it was a female who sold the guitars to a local shop pawn shop, but through questioning and surveillance I received information that her boyfriend was involved. I recovered the rare guitars before they could be resold. I really appreciate LeadsOnline in this case because the victim reported the burglary the middle of January 2013 but the guitars had been stolen and sold a month earlier. The ability to see historical data was imperative.”

Further investigation solves numerous burglaries of small businesses

“I was assigned to follow up on a case where a suspect was found with stolen items in a stolen vehicle. I tracked some of the stolen items to a burglary of a small carpet installation business. This led me to check the suspect’s name in LeadsOnline, which showed he sold other items from that same burglary. This suspect had sold and pawned numerous items in 8 months’ time. I have now tracked down items this suspect sold from another burglary to a small tree trimming business and items he stole from his brothers, father and uncle. The satisfaction of returning these items to the rightful owners is amazing. The small business owners were especially grateful because these tools help them make a living. Thanks LeadsOnline.”

One search solves multiple crimes

“I received a burglary report from patrol that listed stolen items, however no suspect information existed, and there wasn’t any evidence recovered at the scene. As usual, the victims did not have the serial numbers listed for their stolen items. I ran a generic check on LeadsOnline for one of the stolen items: an acoustic Fender guitar. Of particular interest was a male who had pawned an acoustic Fender guitar in an a city about thirty miles away, the same day as the burglary. I then ran a search of that male’s pawn activity and saw that he had pawned a digital camera just three days later, matching the description of the one stolen in the burglary. I was able to contact the pawn shops and after they emailed me photos of the stolen items, I was able to confirm with the victim that the items were in fact theirs and that the person who had pawned them was their son-in-law. The items were recovered and the suspect was arrested. Upon the suspect’s arrest, we located a stolen credit card on his person from a vehicle prowl that patrol deputies were taking the report on just a few miles down the road. A search of his residence turned up evidence from another burglary in an adjoining jurisdiction, to which the suspect ultimately confessed, as well as to burglarizing his in-laws’ residence. Had it not been for LeadsOnline and the service that you provide, these cases would have probably never been solved and the property never recovered.”

A $15 stolen knife solves a burglary case

“I became a detective in my department in March of 2010. I took over the cases of the detective I replaced when he went back to the work the road. Through LeadsOnline, I found a knife that was taken in a burglary at one of our local pawn shops. The female who pawned the knife was best friends with our suspect. I charged the woman that pawned the knife and she plead guilty and received probation, she has to attend theft classes, pay fines and restitution totaling over $800.00 for a $15.00 knife. Thank you for your help.”

Missouri Sheriff’s Office recovers stolen property for victimized widow

“While speaking with a victim who was recently widowed, she gave me the names of three suspects who had possibly stolen items from her residence. This was done while her husband was on his death bed in hospital. How rude can a person be? Well I left her residence, and then had a suspect identified within thirty minutes thanks to LeadsOnline. She was delighted with results. I have since recovered additional property from the suspect. She is bragging about her Sheriff’s Office and me on Facebook. Multi-state theft ring comes to an end in Illinois

“An initial investigation into several snowmobiles being pawned at a pawn shop in Round Lake Beach, Illinois, led detectives from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Round Lake Beach Police Department to a multi-state theft ring thanks to LeadsOnline. After running a search through LeadsOnline, it was determined that the suspects were pawning snowmobiles and boats in Illinois, Iowa, Colorado, and Wyoming. Upon further investigation, it was learned that the snowmobiles and boats were stolen from Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Thanks to LeadsOnline, the detectives were able to put together a large-scale investigation that involved charges from several states.”

Police identify landscaper as suspect in precious metals theft case

“I was assigned to follow up on a theft case. It was unknown when the theft actually occurred, and the large amount of potential suspects proved to make this case difficult to solve. The homeowner was having her house renovated for approximately three months. During this time she was living at another location. When she moved back into her home, she discovered that many pieces of jewelry and coins were missing. She immediately suspected that the construction workers were responsible for the theft. Because of LeadsOnline, I was able to identify the offender, determining that the thefts originated from a couple of years ago until the present time when she discovered some items missing. The offender turned out to be a landscaper rather than the construction workers as she had originally thought. Thanks LeadsOnline!”

Rapid pawnshop recovery in Oregon burglary investigation

“A 95 year old female had her apartment broken into and close to $5,000 in jewelry and other items were stolen. The victim had gone to the hospital the week prior and the residence was unoccupied when the burglary occurred. The victim and her daughter suspected the housekeeper who was employed with the senior community the victim lived in was possibly involved. The patrol officer who handled the investigation was told that the housekeeper just recently hooked up with a new boyfriend. Officer Barringer was able to identify the boyfriend by finding an Oregon State Police no insurance tow report from the weekend prior, where the female suspect had her vehicle towed. Officer Barringer ran the boyfriend using LeadsOnline and found that he had sold $1,600 in gold to a local business in Medford, Oregon. Detectives followed up on the investigation which led to the recovery of the victim’s jewelry from the business and after a consent search at the suspect’s residence the remainder of the victim’s property was recovered. The suspects admitted to their involvement and it was determined the housekeeper had left the outside window of the victim’s apartment open in order for her boyfriend to make entry. The housekeeper knew the victim had gone to the hospital and the residence was unoccupied. Thanks to LeadsOnline this case was solved within two days, where using the old hand check” system it would have taken weeks possibly months. LeadsOnline also allowed for officers to follow up quickly on this investigation and because of that all of the victim’s property was recovered.””

A quick turnaround time for a residential burglary in Miami-Dade

“We had an Occupied Residential Burglary here in my district. The residents gave a brief description of the suspect and had some suspicions of who it could be. The following day, I ran the suspect’s name through the LeadsOnline system and found that he pawned two of the stolen items, three hours after the burglary. That pivotal information eventually led to his arrest, four weeks later. Very quick turnaround time for a Residential Burglary case. Thank you very much!”

New LeadsOnline features helps catch more crooks

“I’ve recently had the pleasure to meet one of the LeadsOnline Client Success Managers. I was introduced to new features offered and taught valuable tools that enhanced my experience and knowledge of LeadsOnline. Now that I’ve acquired that knowledge, I’m able to solve even more crimes here in Lafayette and give victims their property back almost immediately. This year alone I’ve solved numerous property crimes and recovered $194,946 in stolen property. Last year, I recovered over $282,000 in stolen property with the help of LeadsOnline, and I think this year will exceed that amount by far. So I want to say thank you for all of your help and your dedication to making sure that we as law enforcement officers have the advantage.”

Rockin’ recovery of stolen guitars

“Recently our agency took a report for the theft of multiple bass guitars stolen from a collector’s home. Another Colorado garage burglary case closed thanks to LeadsOnline

“A burglary took place in our city during the late night/early morning hours where suspects entered an open garage and stole a bicycle and numerous tools. The serial number for the bicycle was obtained and entered on NCIC/CCIC. The victim could not locate serial numbers to any of the tools. I searched LeadsOnline for tools that had been stolen and saw that an individual pawned an air compressor and a compound miter saw within hours of the burglary. I contacted the victim and asked him if the two tools had any unique descriptors. I then examined the tools at the shop and based on his description, the two tools belonged to the victim. I then filed felony charges on the suspect and was able to return the two items to the victim. This is a case where you don’t always need the serial numbers to locate stolen property (though serial numbers make it a lot easier). I use LeadsOnline every day, and it is a tremendous investigative tool. Thanks!”

Investigative technology solves Colorado property crime

“I used the LeadsOnline system as an aid to locate property stolen in a recent burglary. The extensive investigative functions helped me locate the stolen property, which in turn led to the identification of two suspects. The pair had pawned dozens of items, at multiple locations, and the LeadsOnline system made it simple to track the property. As a result, the suspects were charged with multiple pawn violations and thefts, along with the original burglary, and approximately $5,100 in property was returned to the victim. I appreciate the user-friendly search options the system offers and will continue to use it as an aid in future investigations.”

Ohio detective recovers precious metals before smelting

“Historically I have been able to match stolen jewelry and other precious metals to valid suspects via our in-house pawn records, only to find that the items have already left the store for smelting, destruction, etc. I have often felt `behind the 8 ball`. However, now having LeadsOnline available at my fingertips, it has aided me and my agency in solving several crimes over the past few years. In fact, I have personally solved a high dollar jewelry theft case AND a high dollar jewelry burglary case… just in the past week alone. Even better? I have been able to recover the jewelry prior to it being `lost` forever. Thank you, LeadsOnline. You make my job easier and more fulfilling. Vehicle burglary solved and stolen property returned to victim

“I was assigned to follow up on a vehicle burglary. The burglary occurred in a store parking lot and store surveillance video provided a vehicle description and a possible tag for the suspect’s vehicle. I ran the suspect vehicle tag number through LeadsOnline and got the registered owner of the vehicle. I searched LeadsOnline with that name and found the suspect had pawned stolen property from the burglary. Leads also had photos of the property at the time of the sale. Stolen property may be closer than you think

“Our agency took a burglary report last week where the victim only knew the make and model of his stolen chainsaw. In reviewing the transactions, I found one of the people who had sold the same make and model at a store and the address was only three doors down the road from my victim. I seized the chainsaw and then had our distributor check the correct serial number, and it came back belonging to our victim. The saw was returned and this week I located the person who sold the chainsaw and he went to jail. Great program! Thanks, LeadsOnline.”

Washington police solve property crimes thanks to web-based reporting system

“I have two recent cases where LeadsOnline played a key role: A burglary was reported with several power tools stolen, no serial numbers and a possible suspect listed. An initial check of LeadsOnline did not turn up anything. Two weeks later the suspect was checked again with records in other areas of the state. A check of the case report for updates now has serial numbers for the power tools…the stolen tools matched up to the transactions and confirmed the suspect originally listed. I recovered the stolen property and have two arrests out of it. In another burglary that was reported during March, an electronic gaming device was stolen… the victim did not know when the burglary actually took place other than sometime three months earlier, though they did list a possible suspect. A search of LeadsOnline for the last six months showed the suspect pawning in the area around the first week of December. Even though none of the property has serial numbers, the victim was able to match the electronic items. I recovered the stolen property and one arrest is pending.”

“I searched LeadsOnline for a stolen cell phone that belonged to a high school student. LeadsOnline found the phone and we were able to recover it. Suspect crosses multiple states attempting to sell stolen property

“I investigated a motor vehicle break-in where a leaf blower was stolen from the victim. The victim was able to obtain the license plate number from the suspect’s vehicle, which had been reported stolen as well. During the investigation, Shelby Police Department in North Carolina provided a suspect’s name who had extensive history in their jurisdiction. They further advised that the suspect had been arrested in Florida approximately two days after the reported incident in my jurisdiction. I searched for the missing leaf blower using the suspect’s name and located the victim’s property in Augusta, Georgia. Through assistance with the local sheriff’s department in Georgia, the property was recovered and returned to the victim. The information obtained through LeadsOnline resulted in a felony arrest of two suspects.”

Employing new ways to recover property

“I would like to inform LeadsOnline of success stories from the Little Rock Police Department. The first occurred on September 23, 2004, when I was contacted by one of my Burglary victims. Mr. Smith requested I look up a person he thought might be involved in his burglary. I took the name and ran it in your system, but did not receive any information on this subject. I decided to check the articles and guns in the NCIC area of LeadsOnline. I do this on a weekly basis to check weapons. Mr. Smith had also talked to me about the weapons taken in the burglary of his home. I started going down the list and noticed two weapons that matched the description of the ones taken in Mr. Smith’s burglary. Mr. Smith did not have his serial numbers recorded, but stated he could identify the weapons. After calling Mr. Smith I inquired about a television he had reported and it also matched what this person had pawned. After making an appointment to meet Mr. Smith at the pawn shop, I continued to search the NCIC report. To cut a long story short, I located two other hits on the same page. I was able to solve three burglaries assigned to me within a 15-minute span and recover over $5,000.00 in property. On November 3, 2004, I located a stolen weapon from Grant County, Arkansas. After checking the name of the person who pawned the weapon using LeadsOnline, I also located where he had pawned an additional three weapons. The weapons have been secured through the Police Hold section of LeadsOnline and warrants will be filed on this subject. I want to send my gratitude to LeadsOnline for this website. This site is one of the greatest tools a Police Officer could dream of. I would recommend LeadsOnline to all agencies in Law Enforcement.”
